Held for the first time in Greece, AE2011 was attended by 1029 participants (870 full conference delegates, including 166 students) from 51 countries and is a new record attendance (full conference delegates) for an Aquaculture Europe stand-alone event. “The best EAS event ever...” was a common remark.
AE2011 addressed vital questions affecting the development of Mediterranean aquaculture over the next decade. It provided reviews of the importance of aquaculture in EU food production; the implementation of selective breeding strategies in aquaculture and the sustainability of aquaculture feeds. An overview of current EU-funded research projects highlighted their relevance to current and future production practices.
